Favorite Kitchen Gadgets

I feel like everyone has that ONE gadget they always go to when they cook.  My husband has a very specific utensil he always prefers when browning hamburger.  He will wash it if it's dirty rather than use a different, similar utensil.  I'm not quite that dialed in on one particular utensil, but there definitely are various kitchen gadgets I don't know how I ever lived without!

-Fish Spatula-I was late to the party on this one, even though a certain TV home cook uses it in basically every episode.  Now that I have a couple of them, I don't know how I ever didn't!

-Wide Plastic Ladle-This ladle is dollar store cheap, and it's the absolute best.  Since it's shape more wide and oblong than the traditional ladles, it is both easier to get soups ladled out AND easier to pour into a soup bowl with less drippy mess

-Slotted Fryer Scoop-This fryer scoop came with a little deep fryer I got in around 1995.  That little fryer is LONG gone, but this scoop is handy for so many things!  It's thin so it will slip under food, and though it's uses and appearance are a bit similar to the fish spatula, it's curved shape makes it much easier to scoop up foods that would roll right off the fish spatula.

-Pampered Chef™Mini Spatula-
I bought this in about 2008, and it has been used at least once a week (sometimes much more often though) ever since.  Now this is a utensil I will wash if it's dirty because I NEED it.  It cuts, serves, gets into small corners, and allows you to get out that first piece of cake or dessert neatly.

-Pampered Chef™ Potato Peeler-I have tried all kinds of different peelers with fancy handles and various "easy to use" designs, but I have never found the same quality as a good ol' plain, metal potato peeler like my grandmas used.

-Mini Bamboo Spoon-I just love this little guy!  I use it to mix up so many things.  It's small, fits in smaller bowls, and is great for mixing up small batches of things.  I use it a lot when heating up things in small saucepans too.

-Narrow Silicone Rubber Spatulas-These are the best!  I love them so much I bought a second set of them.  I use them for everything!  The scraper shape is great for scraping inside of jars, bowls, etc.  The other is perfect for scooping things out of tall jars or containers.  I also use it when cooking scrambled eggs instead of a traditional spatula or turner.

-Rachael Ray™ Ladle-I do use this for thick, chunky soups sometimes, but I also use it to scoop out a lot of other foods.  I use it for meatballs, pasta dishes, stews, rice dishes, and potatoes.

-Electric Whisk-
This thing is a game-changer!  I am really picky about my eggs.  I don't like egg whites, so my scrambled eggs have to be very, very mixed up before I cook them so that no whites are visible when they are cooked.  This little electric whisk takes care of that for me.  It's light, easy to clean up, and holds a charge for weeks and weeks at a time.  It also has a milk frother attachment for making pretty coffee drinks and a hook attachment for mixing up powdery things and making jams and jellies.
