There are similar recipes out there. Sometimes they're called dump cakes. I learned this recipe over 25 years ago from someone who served it at a cookout we were invited to attend. I've switched it up a bit, as I do with most recipes, to make it my own.
1 yellow cake mix
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
2 15 oz can sliced peaches in heavy syrup
2 15 oz cans sliced peaches in 100% juice, drained
1 tsp cinnamon, divided
Preheat oven to 375°F. Coat a 13" x 9" pan with nonstick spray. Pour the 2 cans of sliced peaches IN HEAVY SYRUP into the pan. Sprinkle 1/2 tsp. cinnamon over peaches. Drain the 2 cans of peaches in 100% juice, then add them to the pan and gently combine all peaches together.
In a medium bowl, add the dry cake mix, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and stick of softened butter. Using a fork or pasty blender, blend together until the mixture turns to a crumbly consistency and butter is worked into the dry cake mix. Sprinkle the crumbly mixture over the top of the peaches.
Bake for 35-45 minutes, until top is lightly browned and crisp to the touch.
Cool slightly before serving, to allow peaches to cool.
Top with vanilla ice cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar to really take it over the top
